The Holiday Concert will feature music for women’s voices from the baroque era to the present. The concert will open with a multi-movement setting of Mary’s Magnificat by the Italian composer, Niccola Porpora, who was a contemporary of Antonio Vivaldi. Another substantial work that jumps three centuries is a Carol Trilogy by composer Laura Hawley, which was commissioned last year for the premiere Canadian Women’s Chorus, Elektra. Lush settings of familiar texts, There Is No Rose by American composer Z. Randall Stroope, and In the Bleak Midwinter by American composer Michael John Trotta will melt hearts, and two fun secular pieces, Sleigh Bells as arranged by Earlene Rents, and Christmas..in About Three Minutes, will send you out the door humming. A chance to carol with the chorus and three lovely selections for the Choraliers will round out the program.
